HONOLULU — Four Kaua‘i girls and a coach helped the Ka‘oi Under 14 girls soccer team to a state championship in the Ka‘oi Rampage, recently.
Bobbie Rapozo, coach for the Kaua‘i Soccer Association Ha‘aheo, and four of the Ha‘aheo players were on the roster for Ka‘oi in the playoffs.
Rapozo steered the Ha‘aheo pinkshirts to an undefeated season in the Girls Under 12 division here, and took players Mia Cabulisan, Caitlyn Rapozo, Machaele Rapozo and Meagan Wong to Honolulu over a two-week period to help Ka‘oi to its state title.
“The girls got asked to be double-rostered to help finish out Ka‘oi’s regular season as U14 players,” said Bobbie in an e-mail.
Then, on the weekend of May 26-28, the Kaua‘i contingent flew back to Honolulu where Ka‘oi blanked the HSC Bulls 95G-Ka‘ula, 4-0, to advance in the Rampage.
That victory pits Ka‘oi against Hawai‘i Rush G95 Nike, the outcome being another shutout, this time 3-0.
Advancing to play against Kona Heat SC, Ka‘oi continued its trend of not being scored on as the girls shut down the Big Island team, 4-0, to advance to the championship game.
Despite a strong defensive showing by Real 95G, Ka‘oi took the championship with a 2-0 victory, finishing the tournament by not having a goal scored against its defense.
“I was especially proud of the Ha‘aheo players,” said Bobbie. “They did a really good job.”
