A devoted wife, loving mother and best friend, Kilauea resident Heather Bell had “the most beautiful smile in the world,” her husband Bruce Chapin said yesterday.
Bell, 39, suffered a fatal fall from cliffs on the east side of Kalihiwai Bay. North Shore firefighters recovered her body early Wednesday morning.
Dubbed “Happy Heather” and “Darling Debbie” by regulars at Paradise Bar and Grill in Hanalei, fellow waitress Debra Hosino said she will miss her best friend.
“I think I just took it for granted that she would be there forever,” she said. “She was such a good friend… always there and so giving and so thoughtful.”
A mother of three, Bell and Hosino raised their daughters together.
“We met and just instantly became best friends and sisters,” Hosino said. “We ended up working together side by side for so many years as well as spending all our off time together.”
Bell was the type of person who leaves everyone feeling better, Chapin said.
Hundreds of island residents and family members have called Hosino, who is helping the family facilitate the tragedy.
A celebration of Bell’s life will be at 2 p.m. today at Kalihiwai rivermouth. Friends and family members are encouraged to bring flowers, food and beach chairs.
