Kapa‘a resident Clarence Luczon Jr. was the 14-year-old boy who died from injuries sustained in a South Shore auto accident last week, the Honolulu medical examiner’s office said Monday.
He was driving a Honda sedan around 10:05 p.m. Thursday eastbound on Koloa Road before losing control of the vehicle and crashing into a tree, Kaua‘i County spokeswoman Mary Daubert said.
Emergency personnel airlifted Luczon to The Queen’s Medical Center on O‘ahu, where he was later pronounced dead.
A 16-year-old Lihu‘e boy and 19-year-old California man, both passengers in the car, were taken to Wilcox Hospital for injuries.
The cause of the crash is under investigation.
Kaua‘i Police Department Sgt. of Traffic Safety Rob Gausepohl said he could not comment on the case.
The death is the fifth traffic fatality of the year and second this month on Kaua‘i.
