The first will be at 7 p.m., July 13 at the Kilauea Theater, preceded by a performance by Olivia the Band.
The second screening will be July 28 at the Ocean Film Festival (time to be announced).
The documentary is based on Hamilton’s biography of the same title which chronicles her life before and after her shark attack.
The 17-year-old was a promising young surfer who on Oct. 31, 2003, was attacked by a tiger shark while surfing on the North Shore. The shark ripped off her left arm which caused Hamilton to lose 60 percent of her blood.
Her positive attitude after her many surgeries served as an inspiration to many other young surfers and to the country as her story has been told in newspaper articles, magazines and during many media broadcasts.
Hamilton was back on her surfboard and competing approximately a month later and does not receive any special treatment in the competitions.
The documentary features commentary by Hamilton and interviews with her family and friends, including fellow female surfer Alana Blanchard.
It has already won numerous awards this year having been shown at several film festivals this year. At the Honolulu International Film Festival, “Heart of a Soul Surfer” won the award for Best Documentary. It also won for Best Surfing in a Film at the International Surfing Film Festival in De Luz, France.
