A Kauai jury this week found Russell Castro, 43, of Kapa‘a, guilty of one count of forgery in the second degree and one count of attempted theft in the third degree.
The conviction stems from an April 20 incident where Castro tried to cash a forged check at American Savings Bank in Kapa‘a. The check belonged to Sheenel Limos and was stolen from Limos’ home a week before the incident. The bank’s teller denied the transaction with Castro because Limos had the bank freeze her checking account after her checks were stolen.
Castro faces a maximum of six years in prison. Judge Randal Valenciano set sentencing for Nov. 8.
Deputy Prosecuting Attorney Yvonne Vieau prosecuted the case.
