Ponciana Bueno
Ponciana Bueno of Kaumakani and the Philippines died Aug. 15, 2007, in the Philippines at the age of 73. She was born there on Aug. 25, 1931.
Bueno worked in housekeeping for Kauai Surf.
She is survived by husband Gregorio Bueno; children Cristeta Macalma and husband Rueben, Roland Bueno and wife Evangeline, George Bueno and wife Kim, Cleo Kovarik, Phebe Johnson and husband Ted, and Claurino Bueno and wife Mary Jean; and six grandchildren.
Friends and family may call on Friday, Aug. 24, from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m., at Borthwick Mortuary Chapel in Koloa.
Services celebrating her life will be held at West Kauai Methodist Church from 8 a.m. to 9:45 a.m. on Saturday, Aug. 25. A burial at Hanapepe Public Cemetery will follow at 10 a.m.
Katsuko Matsuyama
Katsuko Matsuyama of Lihu‘e died Aug. 11, 2007, at Garden Island Healthcare Center. She was born Jan. 2, 1928, in Koloa.
She is survived by: husband Sueo “Joe” Matsuyama of Lihu‘e; daughters Debra (Kenneth) Okuno of Honolulu, Joni (Gilbert) Cabot of Puhi, and Iris (Chad) Manoi of ‘Ele‘ele; sisters Betty Oshiro of Honolulu, Madeline (Boxer) Matsuda of ‘Ele‘ele, and Alice (Paul) Kamiya of Kaneohe.
There will be a memorial service at 3:30 p.m., Monday, Aug. 27, 2007, at Koloa Missionary Church. A viewing is scheduled to begin at 3 p.m.
Casual attire is suggested.
Mashiko Matsumoto Ohta
Mashiko Matsumoto Ohta of Kekaha died Aug. 1, 2007, in Kapolei, Hawai‘i, at the age of 94. She was born Jan. 28, 1913. Ohta is survived by son Douglas M. Ohta and daughters LaRayne C. Koide, Myrtle H. Haas, Carol K. Murakami, Jo-Ann S. Liu and Grace K. Cacal. Private services have already been held for Ohta.
Michael Rubio Sr.
Michael Rubio Sr., of Kapa‘a, died at Wilcox Memorial Hospital on Aug. 9, 2007, at the age of 61.
Born in ‘Aiea on July 10, 1946, he was a sergeant with the Department of Public Safety at Kaua‘i Community Correctional Center.
Preceded in death by his mother Rosalia Rubio, he is survived by his wife Janice Padre Rubio, daughters Melissa (Bob Carey), Michelle (Darren) Lizama, and son Michael Jr. (Penni Larsen) Rubio; granddaughters Tiffany Bonilla, Kamala Lizama, and Kaila Lizama; grandsons Mark Bonilla, Trever Bonilla, and Mason Silva; his father Caesar B. Rubio; and his sisters Shirley (Bernard) Machado and Ella (Calvin) Lai; numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, and nephews, relatives and friends.
Services will be held on Saturday, Aug. 25, at St. Catherine Catholic Church with visitation from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. and Mass at 11:30 a.m. Burial to follow at Kauai Memorial Gardens. Kauai Memorial Gardens and Funeral Home assisted the Rubio family with the arrangements.
