Seizan Inamine was born in Waimea and grew up in Kekaha.
But in 1951, following his graduation from Waimea High School, Inamine left the island, becoming a high school teacher in California for 35 years.
Fifteen years into retirement, he decided to share a piece of his childhood with his four grown children and nine grandchildren, all of whom live in California.
“A year ago, my wife and I decided that we were going to spend part of our children’s inheritance while we were still alive,” Inamine said in an e-mail.
He gathered the family in June and flew them all to Kaua‘i to show them the beautiful island of his childhood.
“Our former minister, Rev. Roy Sasaki, who is retired and now living in Lihu‘e, renewed our marriage vows with our entire family as witnesses,” Inamine said.
He added that also in attendance were his sister, Yuriko of Honolulu, Corrine and Brian Barcelona and their daughter Kasey from Hanapepe Heights, and high school classmates Arnold Naumu of ‘Aiea and Eduardo and Liza Malapit of Lihu‘e.
“Kauai was and will always be home to me,” Inamine said.
