The Kaua‘i Chamber of Commerce publicly announced its position on the controversial Superferry this week.
In a prepared statement, the Chamber emphasized that it encourages a law-abiding discussion of the issue in the public arena, while remaining decidedly business friendly.
“Both the administrative and legislative branches have allowed Hawaii Superferry to lawfully exist here in Hawai‘i. While interest groups certainly have the right to express themselves, it must be done lawfully.
The statement stressed that elected government officials also refrain from activity that impedes the “lawful operation of any properly established business entity.
“While they are responsible for expressing their position, they are lawmakers and should not be lawbreakers,” reads the statement.
Kaua‘i Chamber of Commerce membership includes more than 650 business and professional men and women.
