KKCR FM Community Radio is celebrating 10 years of broadcasting live since 1997 from their Princeville studios. To commemorate the event, a birthday party is being held Sunday at the Church of the Pacific in Princeville from 1 p.m. to 7 p.m.
Live bands and entertainment will include “Malama Pono Allstars,” “Island Grass,” “Swamp Daddy” and “Strombus.”
The famous Birthday Cake Contest, held in years past is again scheduled for this event. Anyone may enter a cake, from “tiny to tiered” and creative decorating is encouraged. Prizes have been donated by the community. An auction of cakes to benefit KKCR will start around 3 p.m.
Another event at the party, beginning at 2:30 p.m., will be “Honoring Our Past” with a photo gallery of the very early days of the radio station, recognizing the large group of volunteers who worked four years to make it all happen before getting on air.
The party is open to the community of Kaua‘i and people can bring a potluck dish to share.
