Jerald Colobong of Kaua‘i High School rolled the highest game for the boys during the KIF bowling match Saturday at the Lihu‘e Bowling Center, but Kaua‘i dropped to second below Kapa‘a.
With three strong bowlers in front, the Warrior men took first with a 2,320 pinfall over Kaua‘i’s 2,196 showing. Waimea finished third at 2,111, with Island School totalling 961 with just three bowlers.
Kathleen Cadiente rolled a 201 in Game 2 to lead Kaua‘i to its second first finish with a 2,070 pinfall, closely pursued by the Menehune, who finished with a 2,029 total. That was an improvement of 5 pins over last week, when Waimea took first over Kaua‘i.
Kapa‘a finished third with an 1,804 pinfall led by Mindi Agena who finished with a 171 average over three games, including a 200 in Game 3. There were no girl bowlers from Island School participating in the matches.
Colobong, who rolled a season-high 225 in Game 3 of the opening week, finished with a 210 in Game 2 Saturday, to average 172 in three games.
Ian Ramos, who also captains for the Kapa‘a air rifle team, finished with a day-high 168 in Game 3 to lead the Kapa‘a boys with a 165 average. He was joined by Troy Wong and Wesley Abalos at the top with 157 and 156 averages, respectively.
Aaron Belmonte, who was subbed in Game 3, and Ricah Nuesca rounded out the Warrior scoring with 148 and 147 averages.
Edwin Choy topped the Island School bowlers with a 126 average over three games, his best roll coming in Game 3 where he finished at 130. Scott Emberson (109 average) and Jesse Voorhies (85 average) rounded out their bowlers.
Following Colobong for the Raiders, Micah Solusod finished with a 157 average followed by William Balbin at 148.
But a gap emerged with Benjie Bersamira and Bryson Cabalteja rounding out the Raider scoring on averages of 132 and 122, respectively.
Jessica Iwata was consistent with a 150 and 151 in Games 1 and 3, respectively, to help the Raiders. Iwata finished with a 154 average over three games, just one pin shy of leader Kathleen Cadiente who finished with a 155 average.
Aimee Palaroan (134 average), Kelsey Cadiente (130 average) and Sherry Cubangbang rounded out the scoring Raiders.
Tiffany Lum paced the Waimea girls this week, finishing with a 163 average after rolling a 199 opening game. Syanne Sagawa, who led Waimea last week, followed with a 144 average, her highest game topping 147 in Game 1 this week. Bing Xi Sun rounded out the Menehune leaders with a 130 average over three games.
Following Agena’s lead, Joanna Chang rolled a 134 average followed by Allison Chapel with a 108 average and Kalona Hoomanawanui at a 104 average.
Bowling continues with Match 4 this Saturday starting at 2 p.m. at the Lihu‘e Bowling Center.
