Sheena Semana, 23, of Lihu‘e, received a stiff sentence yesterday on charges of second-degree promotion of a dangerous drug.
Circuit Judge Kathleen Watanabe ruled that Semana would serve two, 10-year sentences for that conviction and a violation of parole, both of which stemmed from a February 2006 incident. Watanabe ordered that the terms be served out concurrently, or simultaneously, meaning they will total 10 instead of 20 years.
Kaua‘i police had obtained a search warrant for Semana’s residence and vehicles and recovered 86.6 grams of crystal methamphetamine, drug paraphernalia — including scales, baggies and a how-to manual, and more than $7,700 in cash and cashier’s checks.
At the time, Semana was already on probation for a 2003 conviction for the same charge, according to First Prosecuting Attorney Jennifer Winn.
In addition, Watanabe revoked Semana’s probation and also re-sentenced Semana today to 10 years incarceration for substantially violating the terms of her probation.
Georgia Gherke, 40, of Kapa‘a, also was sentenced yesterday to 10 years incarceration for two counts of second-degree promotion of a dangerous drug and one count of third-degree promotion of a dangerous drug.
Gherke’s sentence stems from two cases, the first of which occurred in October 2005, when Kaua‘i police officers carried out a search warrant for Gherke’s residence and vehicles.
Police recovered crystal methamphetamine, cocaine, drug paraphernalia n including baggies and gas torches n a firearm and drug notes.
While her 2005 case was pending, Gherke was arrested again in March 2007 when police discovered crystal methamphetamine, cocaine, currency and baggies in the car she was driving.
