KAPAIA — When asked who wanted to try on a real crown, the response was unanimous as tiny hands shot skyward at Lihu‘e Hongwanji Nursery.
The nursery students were treated to a visit yesterday from Maggi Celebrado, Miss Kaua‘i Filipina 2007, who stopped by to read stories to the children.
This visit was timed to coincide with Children and Youth Month as well as the Keiki Story Festival on Saturday, a highlight of the month-long celebration on Kaua‘i.
Following storytime, the children lined up for an opportunity to try on Celebrado’s crown, and the entire day was capped with the queen distributing treats to the young students.
She also presented the school with an autographed copy of the book she read about a monster who loved books.
The scholastic beauty queen is not the only visitor planned for the students.
Today, Lt. Kaleo Perez of the Kaua‘i Police Department is scheduled to make an appearance and talk to the children, followed by a visit from Kaua‘i Fire Department personnel from the Lihu‘e fire station on Wednesday to inform the students about safety.
