UHERO enhances data searches
The University of Hawai‘i Economic Research Organization has expanded its offerings of data on state, county and external economies as well as economic forecast reports.
UHERO has also made parallel updates to the Kaua‘i Interactive Database, which provides key data on the Kaua‘i economy. This site has been developed by UHERO under a contract with the County of Kaua‘i Office of Economic Development.
The newest UHERO offerings include At-A-Glance pages that summarize key characteristics of the state and county economies. These pages provide an overview of the economic structure as well as recent trends. Graphs and tables on these pages update automatically as new annual data becomes available.
This new feature supplements the traditional UHERO information, including tables and graphs with data that can be analyzed at monthly, quarterly and annual frequencies, with summary statistics for year-to-date performance. Also, UHERO provides one-click access to a comprehensive PDF databook of all annual tables in the system.
The new Web site was developed for UHERO by Prognoz, a provider of business intelligence solutions based in a Philadelphia, Pa.
Access to the information is free and is funded in part by local business sponsors.

America’s Community Bankers recognized the American Savings Bank Ho‘olako Pono Loan Program this month at its conference in Las Vegas.
The bank received one of 13 awards and was the only bank to be honored in the category of Helping to Improve Home Ownership.
“We are truly honored to be nationally recognized by our peers as a community bank that is actively working to better the lives of the people of Hawai‘i,” Constance Lau, the bank’s chairman, president and CEO, said in a press release.
The Ho‘olako Pono Loan targets to offer construction loans and mortgages to Department of Hawaiian Home Lands lessees Introduced in August 2005, the program was the first of its kind in the state of Hawai‘i to offer construction loans and mortgages to Department of Hawaiian Home Lands lessees. Ho‘olako means to provide or nourish and pono means to make things right. These loans of up to $625,000 can be used to purchase a new home, refinance an existing home or finance the construction of a new home. To date, more than 153 loans totaling more than $32.8 million have been lent for Hawaiian Home Lands improvements, and more than $29 million additional funds are being processed.
Serving Hawai‘i’s businesses and communities for more than 80 years, American Savings Bank is Hawai‘i’s third largest financial institution with $6.8 billion in assets and the second largest branch network in the state.
