HANAPEPE — Kaua‘i High School’s Aaron Pigott scored in the final minutes of the game last night lifting the junior varsity Red Raiders over the Menehune 2-1 at Hanapepe Stadium.
It was his second goal of the night.
Pigott scored at the very beginning of the game to put Kaua‘i on the boards first, but Waimea’s boys turned on the heat. A foul inside the box sent Waimea’s Bryson Tacata to the line for a penalty kick. That goal tied the game at a goal apiece going into the half.
Although Waimea had the slight advantage, having taken more corner kicks than Kaua‘i, the Raider defense held Waimea from scoring again. Both teams went just over 40 minutes of the second half without scoring. Pigott ended the drought to prevent a draw.
Over on the girls side, Kaua‘i blew out Waimea 6-0.
The Raiders were only up by two scores by halftime, but came back from the break with fresh legs. They scored two more goals within the first two minutes of the second half.
Malia Kagawa finished the night with three goals, Christine Albano scored two and Kelsey Cadiente scored one.
Kaua‘i is off for this weekend but Waimea will host Kapa‘a High School tomorrow at Hanapepe Stadium. The junior varsity squads will start the morning games. Varsity’s boys and girls teams will take the field in the afternoon.
