JK had the weekend in full control as he watched Travis Stine help Brandon Fujita with the Saturday night basketball game. JK said he had a crew out at the Miss Kaua‘i pageant (Congratulations to Shawna Tamayose and Marin Johnson), and on Friday night, was able to cover the Kaua‘i Area Complex Spelling Bee.
Bruce Smalling was at the Hoedown for Hope (hats off to Mary Williamson of the American Cancer Society, and all her Hoedown Committee on what looked like a really good event). Ken Onion (the last time we talked, it was like a cutlery convention at the Tip Top) looked really good in his Western gear as did Mike Tresler who fit in with the scene perfectly.
Mike Dandurand had more than one DJ for the event, and Billy Paul did wonders with his music while people filtered aboard the Kaua‘i Plantation Railway (Pepe Trask was going crazy trying to keep all the strings moving).
More kudos go out to Sean Magoun, Kirk Correa (nice to see him out and about, again) and all the Island School ‘ohana for doing such a great job with the KIF Swim Championships.
Ross Shimabukuro was able to juggle between the preliminary heats of the KIF Regatta and still make it back for some of the exciting races in the meet.
And, yes, there was some things that just couldn’t happen … apologies to Melinda Uohara and all the Zonta Club people, but there was absolutely no parking (!) at the Eat Dessert First, so it was on to have laulau created by Uncle John Kaneholani.
