Mahalo to Wanda Shibata for the Chinese New Year goodies. Wednesday was the actual day, and the goodies were a welcome surprise after spending the morning in court and at the poetry contest at Kaua‘i High School.
Divina Plowman got to enjoy the readings since her office is in the library, and congratulations to Chelsea Hill who did a great job with “The Mending Wall” by Robert Frost.
Tara Niemeier, a Kaua‘i High School English teacher, said Chelsea won the National Shakespeare competition at the school and will be going to Honolulu on March 1 to compete for a spot in the national finals against all the other winners in the state.
And some of the other talent included people like JV basketball player Melissa Miner, varsity player Jeremy Robinson, and Robert Topenio was just trying to figure out how to memorize his piece before going on.
Hats off to Mason Chock, Theresa Koki and all those anti-drug instructors for another good presentation with Gary Shimabukuro (he was at Saturday’s Eastside Family Summit jamming with the musicians). On Wednesday, he didn’t have time to do music … it was all business.
Cheryl Grady was at the drug seminar while Russell and Janessa got to take in the boys basketball game in Waimea (coach Paul Barba did a good job announcing the seniors). That was definitely a money’s worth game as it went into triple overtime before Tino Ramos settled everything for Kaua‘i.
