The following individuals recently launched a business, were appointed to a leadership position or honored for their work in the business community:
• Fawaz Gharaibeh was named food and beverage director at Grand Hyatt Kauai Resort & Spa. Gharaibeh will oversee the resort’s seven restaurants and six lounges, including award-winning Tidepools, Dondero’s and Yum Cha.
Gharaibeh joins the Grand Hyatt Kauai from the Hyatt Regency Waikiki, where he served as the director of food and beverage for the past three years. Prior to his move to Hawai‘i, Gharaibeh served as director of catering at the Park Hyatt Los Angeles and the food and beverage director for the Hyatt Regency Orange County, Calif. Gharaibeh joined Hyatt in 1995 after fulfilling a variety of both international and domestic food and beverage positions.
• Micah Chinen was appointed product marketing and sales manager of transportation by Roberts Hawaii. Chinen will be responsible for developing and implementing an annual marketing plan to increase transportation sales through promotions and services. He will also be responsible for acquiring new accounts and maintaining existing accounts for assigned sales territories. Chinen joined Roberts Hawaii in March 2007 and brings seven years of retail management and sales experience to the company. He received his associate’s degree from Kapiolani Community College and serves as Kaka‘ako Christian Fellowship’s Youth Ministry director.
• Optometrist Chet A Myers has joined the practice of Dr. Larry K. Sherrer at The Pacific Eye Center of Lihu‘e. Myers has been practicing on Kaua‘i for nearly 10 years. Myers received his optometry degree from the Pennsylvania College of Optometry and a bachelor’s of science from both the Pennsylvania College of Optometry and Shippensburg University. He obtained clinical experience in Pennsylvania. In 1998, he joined Kauai Optometric Center. He said the technology available to patients at Pacific Eye Center will help him to expand his scope of patient care. Myers sees patients Tuesday through Saturday.
