A man claiming to have been the driver that crashed through a Kintaro Japanese Restaurant wall turned himself in Feb. 23, police yesterday said.
Eric Wakumoto Jr., 20 of Kapa‘a, turned himself in to the Kapa‘a police substation.
Police had been investigating the case in which a local sedan plowed into the restaurant around 1:49 a.m., Feb. 22.
In the aftermath of the accident, police had found a license plate inside the middle of the restaurant.
According to witnesses, the driver had fled the scene and headed to Wailua Houselots.
Wakumoto was interviewed by officers and has since been charged with striking unattended vehicle or property and driving a motor vehicle with a revoked license.
The restaurant is currently under repair and has been open for business since the day following the crash.
Wakumoto will have the opportunity to challenge the citations in court should he so choose.
