Asako Shibata
Asako “Asa” Shibata of Lihu‘e died on April 3, 2008, at her home in Lihu‘e at the age of 84. Born on Oct. 18, 1923, in California, she was a bookkeeper.
She is survived by husband Henry Shibata of Lihu‘e; daughter Janis (Garth) Shibata-Rodrigues of California; sister Ihoko (Frank) Fukuhara of California; and grandson Wesley Rodrigues of California.
Friends may visit with the family at 11 a.m. on Friday, April 11, at Kapaa All Saints Church; memorial services will be celebrated at noon. Casual attire is suggested.

Manuel Santos Sr.
Manuel Lawrence Santos Sr. of Lawa‘i passed away on April 4, 2008, at the age of 77. Born on May 19, 1930, in Waimea, he was an independent contractor.
He was preceded in death by wife Beatrice Santos and sister Lillian Perreira.
He is survived by children Manuel Santos Jr., Beatrice (Allen) Shimizu, Edna (Dickie) Santos, Betty Lou Santos, John Santos, Kenneth Santos, Bobby Santos, Barbara (Albert) Silva, Clyde Santos, Darlene (Bernard) Butay and Ethel Santos; numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren; siblings Bella (John) Ilalaole, Kenneth (Louise) Santos, Louise (Richard) Silva and Betty (Joseph) Gomes.
Friends may visit with the family from 9 a.m. to 10 a.m. on Saturday, April 12, at the Garden Island Mortuary chapel; service at 10 a.m. Family requests leis and cut flowers only.

Ronald Duarte Sr.
Ronald William “Skippy” Duarte Sr. of Kalaheo went to be with the Lord on April 7, 2008, at the age of 69. Born on Dec. 8, 1938, he was a retired power plant supervisor with ITT at the Pacific Missile Range Facility (PMRF) and a retired baseball coach of many years.
He was preceded in death by parents Ceasar and Rosalina Duarte; wife Patricia; sons Darrick and Ryan.
He is survived by daughters Elizabeth Duarte (Derek Arakaki) and Pernella (Sean) Beardsley; sons Ronald Jr. (Marleen) Duarte and Caesar (Vanessa) Duarte; 14 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; brother Donald (Betty) Duarte; daughter-in-law Edie Arrocena; and numerous nieces and nephews.
A celebration of his life will be held from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. on Tuesday, April 15, at Holy Cross Church; Mass begins at 4 p.m. followed by interment at the Hanapepe Cemetery. The family requests casual attire.

Kevin Hills
Beloved father and friend Kevin Edward Hills died March 13, 2008, in Las Vegas, Nev., at the age of 38, along with his new bride of four days, Lisa Prock. They were both killed in a hit-and-run accident on Interstate 15 while on their honeymoon.
Mr. Hills was born in Redwood City and raised in Grass Valley, Calif. He was a previous resident of Kaua‘i and Portland, Ore., and currently lived in Santa Ana, Calif. He was an antique dealer and carpenter by trade. He enjoyed photography, traveling, surfing, was an avid reader and loved the outdoors.
He will be remembered for his charismatic personality, contagious laugh, zest for life, and a smile that lit up the room.
Mr. Hills is survived by son Elijah Aasand, 13, and stepson Nicholas Aasand, 18, both of Kauai; father Kenneth E. Hills of Texas; mother Anita De Camp of Grass Valley, Calif.; sister Melanie Hills of Portland, Ore.; dearest friends Mary Barbaro, previous resident of Kaua‘i currently of Calif., and Becky Aasand of Kaua‘i; and many other family members and friends who will remember him.
