The First Hawaiian Bank at Kukui Grove Shopping Center in Lihu‘e shut down early yesterday after a Caucasian male reportedly robbed the branch shortly after 11:40 a.m.
The man — approximately 5 feet 10 inches tall and in his 40s — approached a teller and demanded money, according to officials.
He left the bank with an undisclosed amount of cash. Mall security and police arrived within 15 minutes of the incident.
No one was injured.
According to preliminary reports, the man was wearing a tan shirt, dark shorts and a dark-colored University of Hawai‘i baseball cap.
The branch, which is the only one on Kaua‘i to offer weekend hours, is normally open from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturdays.
