A 49-year-old man is in critical condition at Wilcox Memorial Hospital after he was reportedly stabbed by another man at Fujii Beach yesterday around 4 p.m.
“The victim is not dead but from what I understand there was a lot of blood loss,” Kauai Police Chief Darryl Perry said late yesterday.
“The 29-year-old suspect is in the hospital as well,” county spokesperson Mary Daubert said.
The suspect attempted to flee after the alleged stabbing, but bystanders physically stopped him. “Witnesses stopped him from fleeing and in the process of being restrained, he was injured and had to be transported to the hospital as well,” Perry said.
The condition of the suspect was unknown by press time.
Detectives were at the scene of the stabbing at the Kapa‘a beach — also known as Baby Beach — and at the hospital well into the night, Perry said. “I have no idea if there will be arrests yet,” he said.
The elderly man was allegedly stabbed by a Caucasian male.
Officials could not say whether those involved were residents or visitors.
A full investigation is under way, Daubert said.
