PRINCEVILLE — The county of Kaua‘i has accepted Princeville at Hanalei’s offer to temporarily house Hanalei Fire Station crews at its airport facilities during planned station renovations. Repair work on the station begins this month and is expected to wrap up by August.
Jeffrey R. Stone, president of Princeville Associates, has agreed to waive approximately $90,000 in rental fees for the three-month period.
“These firefighters play a critical role in ensuring our safety and providing emergency response to our North Shore communities — they deserve our support and we’re very fortunate to be able to help,” Stone said.
Before meeting with Princeville officials, new quarters for the firefighters had not yet been secured. The Princeville Airport’s hangar and office will be the short-term workplace for the department’s administrative and fire personnel, gear, equipment, vehicles and trucks.
“This is an ideal location for us because it is right off the highway, allowing for quick emergency response to north shore homes and beaches,” Fire Chief Robert Westerman said. “The airport also has adequate parking and storage capacity for our vehicles and equipment, and is a secure area.”
In early 2005, Princeville Associates acquired the parcels as part of more than 8,000 acres of land constituting Princeville at Hanalei. The company’s holdings include the Prince Golf Course, Princeville Airport, the Princeville Ranch lands and taro lands in Hanalei Valley.
