Anderson Baloran engineered all four scores in the 13-13 tie, Friday night during the JV Red-and-White contest at Vidinha Stadium.
Baloran, who alternated between signal-calling for both the White and the Red teams at the Kaua‘i High School wrapup of spring football training, fired three passes and kept the ball on an option play for the scores.
While the Waimea and Kapa‘a high schools integrated its JV program players into the singular contest played Friday night, Kaua‘i High School opted to have a separate JV contest with 18 players designated for the White team and 20 players suiting up for the Red squad.
Anderson Baloran was the quarterback for both teams, although Shea Shimabukuro, whose cousin Trey was the QB for the varsity White team, took his turn at calling signals.
But Shea’s strength came in being a pass receiver as he pulled in an 18-yard aerial from Baloran in the left pocket to light up the scoreboards.
He followed that score by doing the point-after boot for a 7-0 bump that opened up the second half of play.
Defensive jockeying between the Red and White kept the ball from going anywhere. Baloran, on an option play, pushed for six yards and the second score of the contest after the opposing forces locked in on his receivers.
The point-after boot failed and White took a 13-0 lead heading for the final frame of play.
Darren Acoba, after being defended successfully by the White defense, finally found some air and pulled in a 16-yard Baloran pass for the 13-6 deficit after Toby Riggle’s point-after boot went wide.
Riggle came back on a successful boot following the final score of the game when Baloran connected with Kealii Waiamau at the 1:13 mark for the 13-13 stalemate.
