In a generous gesture exemplifying the spirit of aloha, Autodesk, a computer software and design company on vacation spent a full day devoted to the YWCA women’s shelter. New playground equipment, colorful rooms, new office furniture and a kitchen remodel were among the improvements made to the family violence shelter by the California based company.
Autodesk and its employees supplied all the funding and labor to transform the YWCA shelter into a more nurturing and welcoming haven for those families fleeing violence in their homes. More than 125 employees, including top level executives, spent the last day of their Kaua‘i vacation to help victims of domestic violence.
Shelter Director Deb DeRoos states in a press release, “From the very first phone conversation to the final clean up day, Autodesk Inc. and everyone involved focused on how they could help us meet the needs of the shelter,” she said. “They listened to us each step of the way. The completed projects went above and beyond. There are no words to describe the positive impact of this gift for our Shelter.”
This project is estimated to be more than $50,000 in donation to the YWCA of Kaua‘i. Executive Director Renae Hamilton expressed a big mahalo for this unique gift to the women and children of Kaua‘i.
The YWCA Family Violence Shelter provides 24-hour confidential crisis service to victims of domestic violence and/or sexual assault.
