A brush fire along Polihale Road on Wednesday evening required the attention of six fire trucks and took almost two hours to put out, a county official said.
County spokesperson Mary Daubert said yesterday that a downed power line caused 10 acres of a Westside hillside to burn.
Kaua‘i Island Utility Cooperative spokesperson Shelley Paik said that 10 consumers briefly lost power and that the total load interrupted was 30 kilowatts.
According to Daubert, a male caller reached emergency dispatch at 8:07 p.m. and described the location of the fire as being “after Queen’s Pond.”
Dispatch contacted the Kaua‘i Fire Department, which asked that Pacific Missile Range Facility crash/fire unit also be called.
Waimea’s Engine 7 and Truck 7 and Kalaheo’s Truck 5, carrying a total of six firefighters, responded and found three PMRF trucks already on the scene, said Daubert.
PMRF spokesperson Tom Clements said yesterday that they had received a call for assistance from the police dispatch at approximately 8:10 p.m.
“We responded with three vehicles — one command vehicle and two fire trucks,” he said. The PMRF assisted the KFD with the blaze.
Daubert said that the fire was fully extinguished at 9:56 p.m.
A call to the Department of Land and Natural Resources was not returned.
