NAWILIWILI — Twenty toddlers will be in the water, Tuesday.
Through the help of the Young Brothers Community Advisory Board, the Moms Club of Kaua‘i will have its first toddler swimming program at the Learning Pool at the YMCA of Kaua‘i pool which celebrated its dedication earlier this week.
“The YMCA has been very good about working with us,” said Katie Thiele of the Moms Club. “They will be offering us a three-week session for 20 families starting Tuesday.” The YB CAB grant covers the “Mommy and Me” swimming classes at the YMCA facility in Puhi.
The Learning Pool allows children from six to 35 months to learn basic swimming techniques from two qualified YMCA instructors, with the toddlers’ moms assisting.
This is done through a step system in the pool where children of different ages require different depths in the learning process.
“The Moms Club hopes to continue its swimming program as more funding becomes available,” Thiele said in a press release.
The Moms Club of Kaua‘i is a local support chapter of the international nonprofit organization “Moms Offering Moms Support.”
A variety of activities for mothers and their children fill each week’s calendar.

The grant covering the “Mommy and Me” swimming program is the second time the YB CAB has partnered with the Moms Club.
More than $400,000 has been distributed to more than 100 nonprofit organizations statewide by the YB CAB program over the past six years.
