Fifteen contestants of the original field of 31 participants moved on following the second qualifying round of the Superstars Kaua‘i program.
In addition to advancing in the overall competition, four singers earned special recognition from the panel of judges during the round which was held at the Kaua‘i Hospice Concert in the Sky at the North Vidinha soccer fields.
While the original round involved competitors singing a minute segment a cappella, the second round allowed contestants a 3-minute stint under the lights at the Concert in the Sky stage with a musical accompaniment via tape or CD.
Joe Mahuka, one of the early singers, was announced the winner of the Aloha Spirit Award, joining T’Nille Reynolds who earned the Vocal Range Award, Tommy Patch who pocketed the Originality Award and Sherrie Holl who was presented the Stage Presence Award.
The 15 candidates, including the winners of the four special awards, move on to the next round which will be held during the upcoming Koloa Plantation Days.
Those making the cut include Angela McCarthy, Alysha Bogart, Mahuka, Donovan Pegeder, Marin Johnson, Reynolds, Jack Viohl, Carol Hernandez, Britney Dawson, Oreet Feinstein, Patch, Marc Udarbe, Lara Butler-Brady, Holl and Danielle Simone.
