JEFFREYS BAY, South Africa — Round 3 of the Billabong Pro Jeffreys Bay commenced early this morning, with conditions in the 3-to 4- foot and building range and 32 of the world’s best surfers still in contention.
The call comes after a few days of lay days halting the start of Round 3.
Contest officials are endeavoring to run all 16 heats of Round 3 and the first four heats of the quarterfinals today. Should they accomplish that feat, only 11 heats will remain before a Billabong Pro Jeffreys Bay Champion is crowned.
Kaua‘i’s popular brothers, Bruce and Andy Irons, Roy Powers and O‘ahu’s Fred Pattachia are on the rosters to surf today.
Also still in the competition are the Australians Mick Fanning, Bede Durbidge, Taj Burrow and Luke Stedman.
