Kalani and Ala Vierra, the unique father-daughter tandem surf team, finished the San Clemente Ocean Festival in first place in commanding form. They beat out their competitors by posting a score of 12.11, winning by nearly four more points than the second-place finishers (8.59).
Additionally, Kalani was nudged from the top spot in the Sunday stand-up paddle competition by a slim margin to end up in the No. 2 position.
According to Kalani’s wife, Tracy, there was a total of nine other teams competing in the tandem competition and 24 riders in the SUP division.
The pair competed under overcast weather on the cold side, but by mid-morning Sunday, the sun came out. The father-daughter team performed before an approximate 40,000 people on the beach on each of the two days of competiton.
With the first place, Kalani and Ala will be heading to the Duke Festival in Waikiki, Aug. 17-23. This is the next stop on the World Tandem Tour.
Kalani will be in the water at the Moloka‘i SUP long distance event tomorrow and the C4 SUP division at the Duke Festival.
