Hawaii Tax Institute seeking Advisor of the Year nods
The Hawaii Tax Institute is seeking nominations from members of legal, accounting, investment, insurance, charitable and financial institutions in Hawai‘i for the Advisor of the Year award.
Tax, estate planning or financial professionals are eligible. Nominations are being accepted through Sept. 1.
The recipient will be allowed to direct $5,000 to a Hawai‘i-based charity of his or her choice. Both the winner of the Advisor of the Year award and their charitable recipient will be recognized at the Hawaii Tax Institute’s 45th annual Tax Conference Oct. 21.
“We are looking for individuals who have shown unparalleled commitment to their clients,” said Curtis Saiki, advisory board member of Hawaii Tax Institute and vice president and estate planning advisor at First Hawaiian Bank. “We feel it is important to recognize these advisors who have devoted his or her time and talents for the betterment of our community and have made major contributions to the advancement of the practice of tax advising.”
The Advisor of the Year award is open to all advisors across the state who provide tax advice to their clients as part of their services.
Edible Hawaiian Islands magazine looking for heroes
Edible Hawaiian Islands magazine is seeking nominations for its 2009 local food heroes.
The categories include: farm/farmer, chef/restaurant, food/beverage artisan, and nonprofit.
The voting deadline is Dec. 12. The 2008 winners included Ocean Vodka, Kailani Farms, the Aurora Foundation and two Kaua‘i proprietors: Andrea Quinn from Icing On The Cake as Food Artisan and Jim Moffat from Bar Acuda Restaurant for the Chef/Restaurant category.
Edible Hawaiian Islands part of the network of publications in 50 cities and regions. Edible Communities magazines explore the foods farmed, raised, fished, tended and produced in each of there local communities.

Island Air adds Honolulu-Kona nonstop service
Island Air will add nonstop Honolulu-Kona service on Fridays and Sundays beginning Sept. 5, and daily nonstop service beginning Sept. 16. In addition, Island Air announced a fall fare of $138 (before taxes) roundtrip for travel that must occur between Sept. 2 and Oct. 31, 2008.
