NAWILIWILI — No matter how bad things look, people always find a way to help others, and the Kaua‘i Board of Realtors is no exception.
Karen Ono, representing the KBR, dropped off a check representing $1,700 in contributions made to the Kaua‘i Food Bank during the KBR’s recent general membership meeting.
In addition to the financial contribution, KBR realtors also came up with 170 pounds of food to help feed Kaua‘i’s hungry.
Kelvin Moniz of the Kaua‘i Food Bank said this was the first time they’ve been invited to take part in the KBR meeting and brought over several exhibits as well as a donation can.
“There was no pressure, but the realtors were very generous,” Moniz said. “After hearing what we presented, almost every one put something in the pot to help.”
Ono said KBR hosts three general membership meetings a year and does three big projects a year.
The first beneficiary was the Salvation Army and the Kaua‘i Food Bank is the second big project for the year. Ono said the third project will probably be for child and family services.
Currently, Ono said real estate activity has been low, but despite this trend, the realtors have been generous in helping others that need a helping hand.
