James Stevens stepped up for 11 points to lead Hanakila to the top of the Boys Under 13 division with a 46-18 win over Lihu‘e Saturday.
The victory wraps up that division and a marathon 10-game outing at the Kilauea Neighborhood Center brought the 3 G’s Nation competitive basketball summer league to a close.
Following Stevens’ lead, Keli‘i Koa Baclayon, Justin Apilado and Marlon Cudiamat each netted 8 points followed by James Paik with 7 points. Pairs from Cy Whitlock and Kawika Wellington closed the books for the blackshirts.
Kerwin Murano and Kameron Perez netted all of the Lihu‘e scores with 10 and 8 points, respectively.
Kapa‘a A came out on the winning edge with a 30-28 edge over the Westside in the Boys 15 Under division, but dropped its remaining three games.
Elmer Cudiamat came up with 11 big points for the Kapa‘a A against Westside followed by Kapono Cummings’ 6 points.
Kaili Lagundino and Branden Palacio sparked the Westside effort with 10 points apiece.
Lagundino kept up the pace in the Westside’s encore against Kapa‘a A when he got help with his 7 points in the blueshirts’ 44-43 edge over the A team.
Chase Parongao, held to just a digit in the opening match against Kapa‘a A, stepped up with 6 points to join Palacio and Kalen McKracken who each netted 6 points as well.
Elmer Cudiamat was held to just 4 points in Game 2 while Cummings exploded for 17 points along with Spam Lindsey’s 12 points in the effort.
Lindsey continued to sizzle the twine against the Gee Unit with 14 points, but the effort fell short, 52-38 as Joe Duronslet and Willis Batol took the lead for the Gee Unit with 14 points apiece.
Lindsey continued to set the pace with a 17-point showing in Kapa‘a A’s final game of the day, but fell short as Canaan Higa and Tyren Hepa combined for 21 points in Team Central’s 39-30 victory.
Keane Agoot added 6 points for Kapa‘a A and Kainoa Colipano finished with 5 points while Elmer Cudiamat was strapped for just a pair by the TC boys.
Duronslet and Batol got help from Donovan Harrison with 13 points each in a losing 55-51 effort against Team Central.
Bryan Andres stepped in for 18 points to lead the TC boys with Hepa finishing with 15 points while Higa finished with 6 points. Brandon Taylor added 9 points to help the win.
Batol exploded for a game-high 25 points in the Gee Unit’s encore match with Team Central, but that still fell short as TC boys took a 59-53 win behind 14 points each from Andres and Hepa and Nathan Wong helping the win with a dozen points.
Kelsey Cadiente and Kawehi Louis-Diamond each finished with 14 points to lead the Kamikaze to a 38-33 edge over Island Heat before dropping to the Menehune 44-28.
Jennifer Grady finished with a game-high 16 points for Island Heat, but with the next highest scorer, Courtney Contrades, finishing with 7 points, the effort fell short.
Cadiente continued the fire against the Menehune with 14 points, but came up short as Louis-Diamond was held to 6 points while Kayla Perez added 8 points.
The Connelly sisters, Paige and Erin, paced the Menehune attack with 11 and 10 points, respectively, but against the Gee’s Angels, Erin was held to just 5 points while Paige came up empty.
Searra Kaohe set the Menehune pace against the Angels with 25 points while Krystle Henry led the Angels’ attack with 11 points followed by Leina‘ala McCabe chipping in 6 points. Mahea Hanie Grace, Kasa Pohiva and Riana Ralston added 4 points apiece.
