Congresswoman Mazie Hirono’s second-quarter filing will show that she has raised more than $1 million for her 2008 campaign, according to her campaign office.
The filing covers the period from April 1 through June 30.
“The campaign collected 831 individual contributions, with 87 percent coming from Hawai‘i, evidence of the broad-based support Congresswoman Hirono enjoys in Hawai‘i,” Jadine Nielsen, finance committee chair for Friends of Mazie Hirono, said.
The congresswoman, D-2nd District, officially launched her campaign last weekend with the endorsements of the Hawai‘i State Teachers Association and the Sierra Club. The campaign began airing a television ad communicating her opposition to the Iraq war and her commitment to bringing the troops home.
For the period beginning April 1, Friends of Mazie Hirono collected $168,285 and has $672,925 cash on hand.
Hirono represents rural O‘ahu and all Neighbor Islands in the 110th Congress and is seeking her second term in office.
Hirono says she’s working to represent residents’ concerns by securing quality early education for Hawai‘i’s children, exploring renewable energies, protecting our island environment, bringing our troops home and ending the Iraq war.
