Kenny Ishii is on a saimin schedule at Ono Family Restaurant. He said Gary Maguire brought his Kapa‘a High School girls volleyball team in for some on the first night he started doing saimin. Uncle Jerry Kaneholani was busy making won tun before the rush begins on Wednesdays through Saturdays from 5:30 to 9 p.m. Gotta go check that out … Shastin Snyder already has the bag of pork skins, too.
And, on the subject of partying, it was a blast at the semifinals for the Kaua‘i Super Stars (pure Steinies for $3?). Ron Wiley and Dickie Chang were good on the stage, and how many of you knew that Raymond Duarte could do the emcee thing, too? Lessee now, sound man extraordinaire (how do you like that — it’s in the dictionary), bass player, guitar player, and now, emcee? With all that excitement, it was like having our own White House press corps.
Hats off to Orlando Anaya and all his Mokihana Aquatics ‘ohana on a great Fun Meet. The drive to Waimea was well worth it — even got to see Jay Furfaro waving by the bridge. John Ochoco of the East Kaua‘i Lions Club was going to coach them in their pick-up softball game against the West Kaua‘i Lions after the meet Saturday, and everyone at the meet had fun with Dr. Chris Woo, Hawai‘i’s gold medal Olympic swimmer.
