Hawai‘i’s surfers fell short yesterday in the Boost Mobile Pro at Lower Trestles in California.
Kaua‘i’s Roy Powers was the first of the Hawai‘i surfers up yesterday, but was defeated by Australia’s Kieren Perrow, who later lost to Florida’s Kelly Slater in Round 4.
Slater surfed twice yesterday, beating wildcard and former Association of Surfing Professionals world champion Sunny Garcia in Round 3, before taking on Perrow.
Kaua‘i’s Bruce Irons, who has had an up and down run this week, surfed in the final heat yesterday and lost out to Australia’s Jay Thompson 14.04 to Irons’ 4.93. Irons won the most recent ASP event in Indonesia and announced last month that this will be his final season on the professional tour.
