Kaua‘i shooters post highest scores

KAPA‘A — Waimea swept its series over Island School and the Kapa‘a girls handed Kaua‘i a split in Kaua‘i Interscholastic Federation air rifle competition, Thursday. The Kapa‘a boys team forfeited its match to Kaua‘i (1178) when it was unable to field five shooters at its new firing range.
Despite the split, Kaua‘i shooters posted the highest scores in both the boys and girls individual performances as Kelan Adachi finished with a 255 (91-87-77) and Rachel Hamamura topped the girls with a 247 (88-84-75), Adachi’s performance drawing praise from Kapa‘a coach Bill Barchers who pointed out the notable performance.
Kapa‘a girls finished 1108-1086 led by Heather Walker’s 236 (86-80-70) and Britney Inanod’s 228 (84-73-71). Kamala Rojas (84-72-65-221), Alma Iglesia (76-64-72-212) and Darlene Jarquio (71-77-63-211) rounded out the Warrior scoring.
Following Hamamura, Kaua‘i shooters included Brianne “Malu” Hornos (89-79-54-222), Stephanie Rose (75-79-57-211), Delissa Nobriga (75-85-48-208) and Meghan Fujimoto (82-63-53-198).
With the sweep, the Waimea girls, a 1089-958 winner over Island School, remain undefeated following three weeks of competition.
Waimea’s boys finished tied with Island School at 1056-1056 paced by Peter Joyce finishing with a 221 (84-78-59). With the tie, Island School athletic director Kaipo Kealalio said the tie breaker became the total of the final position scores where Waimea edged out Island School 376-349 in the kneeling position for the win.
Following Joyce, Waimea scoring shooters included Geoffrey Tran (77-81-58) and Bryle Rivera (84-77-55) each posting scores of 216. They were followed by Kellan Nadatani (87-78-59-204) and Ty Shitanaka (86-74-39-199).
Island School leaders included JRiley Louis (79-66-74-219), Aaron Rozon (89-71-57-217), Logan Domingo (84-75-56-215), Kenji Rutter (83-71-59-213) and Kaylen Blaine (69-66-57-192).
Rachel Wright (88-68-74) and BreeAnn Abuan (88-77-65) paced the Menehune girls with scores of 230. The pair was followed by Joanna Andres (89-76-49-214), Amber Duldulao (83-65-60-208) and Dyan Tabalan (75-77-55-207).
Lindsey Duarte (76-72-53-201) led the Island School girls followed by Sofia Fernandez (86-48-64-198), Alexandra Mink-Flacco (65-64-67-196), Pii Lani Kali (71-68-49-188) and Samantha Barry (77-66-32-175).
Waimea will travel to Kapa‘a and Kaua‘i will move to the Island School range Thursday as the KIF air riflery season enters its fourth week.
