Question 1. The Kauai County Charter has been described as lacking the depth for a strict interpretation of its intent. If the charter does in fact allow for flexibility in interpreting the powers bestowed upon the office of mayor, is that flexibility a good thing and how will you use that flexibility to carry out your duties?
Follow up: So what role does the charter play in the day-to-day functioning of the mayor’s office?
Question 2. What is your interpretation of supporting the local economy?
Follow up: How would you address the dichotomy of small businesses importance to the local economy and the centralization of large retail outlets?
Question 3. What specifically are you going to do to help the small businesses on Kauai?
Follow up: If centralized large retail outlets with lower prices are what the community wants, what does that mean for the future of Kauai’s economy?
Question 4. With the decline of the sugar industry and declines in the housing market, does development of tourism resorts and timeshares take on a different emphasis?
