National Make A Difference Day in Lydgate Park is Oct. 25. Volunteers can register at 7:30 a.m. at Kamalani Playground or at the new sports fields. Friends of Kamalani Playground will serve lunch to volunteers.
The scope of work includes spreading a new layer of wood fiber cushioning around Kamalani Playground and planting shade trees at the new sports fields at Lydgate Park, so grubby gardening clothes are recommended.
Volunteers who have tools are asked to bring:
• Shovels
• Hard garden rakes
• Work gloves
• Wheelbarrows and/or garden carts (big fat wheels preferred)
• Utility knives (retractable blades only)
• Personal water bottle

EZ to Use Your Island Pages donated 17 trees in the planting program — representing the 17 schools around Kaua‘i that participated in their phone book recycling program. The program saved 17 trees for every 1,000 pounds of recycled phone books. The school children who recycled their phone books were urged to help plant their school’s tree. Questions, comments and inquiries regarding volunteer group arrangements may be directed to the Friends’ coordinator Thomas Noyes, ThomasNoyes@hawaiiantel.net or 245-5959.
