Three of 14 swimmers representing Swim Kaua‘i Aquatics returned home with new ZONE qualifying times for the Western Region, said SKA head coach Billy Brown, yesterday.
Anya Littlefield, 14, picked up ZONE times in the 1000 Yard and 1650 Yard freestyle events, finishing the state Short Course Championships with silver medals in each of those events on O‘ahu last weekend.
Aaron Pigott, 16, chalked up a ZONE time in the 200 Yard Breaststroke event and Emma Rausch, 15, picked up a ZONE time in the 200 Yard Backstroke.
In addition to the zone qualifiers, Brown said eight of the 11 individual swimmers finished in the top eight in the state finals to earn individual medals for their efforts.
Joining the four zone qualifiers, other medalists include Desiree Pia, Casie Ford, Ka‘eo Kruse, Ryann Linthicum and Tyson Chihara, states a SKA press release.
Two SKA relay teams finished in the top eight of the four-day tournament held at the Central O‘ahu Regional Park.
For Sinead Sims, Maliana Kaui and Bryson Baligad, the state meet earned them personal best times in events they competed in.
Stephanie Rogers, the SKA president, said SKA finished off one of its most successful state championships in the team’s history with the results of this meet.
SKA swimmers will be back in action at the new YMCA pool on Jan. 18 when it hosts its Keiki Meet.
The swim club was founded to teach swimming skills and improve proficiency for children and adults on Kaua‘i by encouraging physical fitness and competition through U.S. Swimming organized events.
