Kaua‘i’s Sebastian Zietz, Leila Hurst and Bethany Hamilton will join some of the world’s top surfers for the Billabong Association of Surfing Professionals World Junior Championships at North Narrabeen Beach, Australia.
The world’s top junior surfers compete all year long on their respective domestic ASP Pro Junior Series for a chance at qualifying for the Billabong ASP World Junior Championships and a shot at the ASP World Junior Title. Competitors from the seven respective ASP regions (North America, South America, Africa, Japan, Australasia, Europe and Hawai‘i) will join wildcards from ASP International as well as Billabong this week as they battle for junior supremacy.
The waiting period starts tomorrow and may hold until Saturday, Jan. 10.
Zietz and Hurst are the representatives for ASP Hawai‘i, while Hamilton is listed as an ASP International wildcard, along with Maui’s Dusty Payne.
Others from ASP Hawai‘i are Kai Barger, Kiron Jabour, Casey Brown, Tonino Benson and Supergirl Junior Pro Grade 2 champion Coco Ho.
Maui’s Granger Larson is listed as a Billabong wildcard entry.
Torrey Meister will compete in the Von Zipper Trials for a spot in the junior championships.
