Afterburners will attempt to redeem its first season loss Saturday when it opens against Kryptonite at 3:30 p.m. at Vidinha Stadium.
Rob Siemers and Andy Solomon of Cane Fire teamed to blemish Afterburners’ undefeated record with a 2-1 edge during the Feb. 13 matchup in which Eli Emery scored the sole Afterburners’ goal.
During that outing, Kryptonite took a 1-0 halftime lead after Keoni Nakano fired a rocket over Hanalei keeper Manny Crain, Hanalei playing short with just seven players to Kryptonite’s nine.
Colby Ayonon opened the second half with a shot from 40 yards out that got past Erik Baxter to deadlock the match.
But Duncan MacDonald sealed the win for Kryptonite after taking a cross from Lucas Hassett and heading the ball in.
Cane Fire will open against Hanalei in the second game, Saturday starting at 6 p.m. in the Kaua‘i Mens Soccer Association league.
