KILAUEA — The Westside launched five successful three-point bombs in a losing effort against Hanakila, Monday night at the Kilauea Neighborhood Center.
Hanakila picked up its third straight win behind 10 points from Cy Whitlock in its 61-26 showing over the Westside in the first of three games played in the county’s 13 and Under boys basketball program.
Chavis Garma and Peterson Lahip paced the Westside scoring with eight points apiece, including two treys from each player. Briggs Agu nailed the fifth Westside trey, his only score in the outing.
Trey Aguano and Javan Torres each chalked up 10 points to lead Papalina to its 47-26 showing over Lihu‘e who got 10 points from Jacob Corpuz and six points from Keanu Mathias.
“They’re getting better with each game,” said Max Manera, coach for Lihu‘e. “We just got a bunch of the football boys together and figured we’d play basketball.”
Angelo Ramento and Kerwin Morano fired seven points apiece to lead Ho‘ouila to a 31-23 win over Team Central who got a game-high 14 points from Kanalu Simao and eight points from Jedidaia Blake.
Following Ramento and Morano, Ho‘ouila got six points from Tommy Paulwin and five from Chavis Banasihan, including one from outside the three-point arc.
“They got a slow start,” said Peter Rayno, the Ho‘ouila coach. “They were playing one-man basketball and you can’t win that way.”
