St. Louis High School, Lahainaluna High School and Honoka‘a High School will have baseball teams here when the Waimea High School opens its invitational baseball tournament Feb. 26-28.
The Neighbor Island teams will be competing with high school teams from Kaua‘i, Waimea and Kapa‘a high schools starting next Thursday.
That announcement comes as Waimea and Kaua‘i conclude their respective intra-squad games, Kaua‘i hosting its Red and Black event Saturday at Vidinha Stadium, and Waimea hosting its Blue and White event Monday with a double-header at Hanapepe Stadium complete with a beef stew plate and lots of door prizes.
Prior to the start of the Red and Black game Saturday, the Red Raiders, defending Kaua‘i Interscholastic Federation champions, hosted community baseball teams from the Lihu‘e Baseball League, Koloa and Kalawai to a baseball clinic featuring the coaches and players of the Kaua‘i team that advanced to become champions of the Hawai‘i High School Athletic Association, Division II.
Kaua‘i High School opens its season, March 11 when it hosts Waimea in a single game at Vidinha Stadium starting at 3:30 p.m.
Waimea, under new head coach Michael Rita, will be winging to O‘ahu this week to participate in the Mid-Pacific tournament before hosting its own tournament next week.
The Menehune open the KIF baseball season March 7 with a double-header, hosting the Kapa‘a Warriors starting at 10 a.m. at the Waimea High School field.
Kapa‘a, under new head coach Gordan Muramaru, will take the field Feb. 26 at noon against Kaua‘i High School at Hanapepe Stadium to open the Waimea tournament.
Host Waimea meets Lahainaluna starting at 2:30 p.m. at Hanapepe Stadium, and in the final contest, Honoka‘a meets St. Louis at the Waimea field, also starting at 2:30 p.m.
