Orchids and art come together at the 3rd annual Kaua‘i Orchid and Art Festival today and Saturday. Experience the beautiful display of exotic, tropical orchids at the Garden Island Orchid Society’s Spring Fantasy Orchid Show. View the works of Kaua‘i artists as they explore the theme “Orchid Fantasy” in this year’s juried art exhibit. Plein air painters are invited to paint in various locations around historic Hanapepe during the festival. There will be a workshop in vanilla cuisine, the only edible orchid, with Chef Locano. Slack key guitarist, Makana, will play a free concert Saturday. Children’s art activities are offered and local vendors will be selling food. With exception of select workshops entrance to events are free.
The Spring Fantasy Orchid Show will be in the Hanapepe United Church from 1 p.m. to 8 p.m. today and continues 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday. The concert begins 6 p.m. today. Listen to the music and browse the many art galleries of Hanapepe. Finale concert and awards ceremony Saturday at the Hawaiian Congregational Church, 3815 Hanapepe Road. Entertainment begins at noon. Cindy Combs will play slack key guitar and contemporary Hawaiian music followed by awards at 2 p.m. and then Makana.
