LIHU‘E — Gas prices continue to climb and, according to the AAA Hawai‘i Weekend Gas Watch, it gained 2 to 6 cents per gallon throughout the islands from a week ago.
As of Friday, the average price in Honolulu was $2.37 for unleaded, two cents more than last week’s price, 10 cents higher than last month, and $1.03 lower than this time last year. The average price in Hilo is $2.56 per gallon, up six cents from last week, 11 cents from last month, but $1 lower than this time last year. Wailuku’s average price was $2.61 per gallon, five cents more than last week, 12 cents more than last month, and $1.28 lower than last year.
“For the third consecutive week, prices increased while Mainland prices have shown mixed results — some states increased by a penny or two and others fell by the same amount,” said AAA Hawai‘i Regional Manager Richard Velazquez in a written statement. “AAA Hawai‘i advises motorists to use a safe and smooth driving style as this will be the most beneficial way to save fuel on an ongoing basis.”
