PRINCEVILLE — A local surfer reported seeing a number of sharks feeding on a small, beached whale at “Hideaways,” a popular surfing spot located just below Pali Ke Kua condominiums in Princeville, Monday night, according to a county statement.
The surfer, not identified in the release, contacted the Hanalei fire station at around 8:15 p.m. Ocean Safety Bureau officials quickly urged surfers and other beachgoers not to go in the water in the vicinity of “Hideaways.”
County officials encouraged beachgoers to instead go to any guarded beach around the island, including Ke‘e, Ha‘ena, Hanalei, Anahola, Kealia, Lydgate, Po‘ipu, Salt Pond or Kekaha.
