The state Judiciary History Center is accepting applications for the School Violence Prevention Demonstration Program workshops for the 2009-10 school year, according to a press release.
The free program is open to public and private school social studies teachers of grades five and eight, and high school teachers who teach Participation in Democracy and U.S history.
The application deadline is June 30.
Participants will attend three, two-day workshops during the school year, and will be instructed in constitutional history and theory, the Bill of Rights, citizenship and the Constitution, public policy theory, learning strategies, integration methods and assessment tools.
The goal of the program is to demonstrate that the use of quality civic education curricular materials and interactive, performance-based teaching strategies will
improve students’ tolerance for the ideas of others, attitude towards authority, and ability to act as responsible citizens.
