KEALIA — An 18-year-old Kapa‘a man was medivaced to the Queen’s Medical Center on O‘ahu Friday afternoon after sustaining serious injuries when the industrial forklift he was using to trim trees rolled over, ejecting him.
According to a Friday evening county press release, Evan Garcia was in critical condition.
A preliminary report said Garcia was trimming trees from the basket of a Sky Trak, an industrial forklift, on private property in Kealia Friday morning, when Jeffrey Rivera, the operator of the Sky Trak, began adjusting the basket to bring Garcia closer to the branches of the tree.
The forklift started rocking, then rolled over on its side with the center of the arm landing on a Suzuki all-terrain farm vehicle parked next to it, the release said.
Garcia, who was about 40 feet high in the basket, was ejected. He was transported to Wilcox Hospital and was later airlifted to Queen’s Medical Center for further treatment.
