KOBE, Japan — Kobe has had the tragic experience of the Great Hanshin Awaji Earthquake of 1995. During that time, the first trial to rescue animals by systematic voluntary ways was used.
Care and the responsibility to all living lives, not only human, but animals is learned through these experiences.
Earlier this month, an International Conference on Animal Care was held in Kobe where Kaua‘i Humane Society’s Dr. Becky Rhoades was a guest speaker.
The flag workshop of the conference — Workshop 1 ‘Crisis Management When Disaster Strikes’ — included a speech by Rhoades.
The conference was the first of its kind to include a variety of animals such companion, farm, zoo even wild animals.
