WAIMEA — One more record fell and Kaua‘i swimmers gained four more consideration times during the Kaua‘i Interscholastic Federation qualifying swim meet Saturday at the Waimea pool.
Anya Littlefield, swimming for Kapa‘a High School, broke the record in the Girls 100 Yard Freestyle set last year by Emma Rausch at the KIF championships.
“It was an awesome meet with plenty of exciting races,” said Billy Brown, head coach for Swim Kaua‘i Aquatics and one of the meet officials. “A big highlight was the good race in the 100 Free with Anya breaking the KIF Record with a 57.37 swim, breaking Emma’s 57.54 set last year.”
During that race, Littlefield was pitted against Kaua‘i swimmer Keisha Anaya who last week amassed her record-breaking swims at the Kapa‘a pool.
“This was the race of the day,” said Orlando “O” Anaya, Keisha’s dad as well as coach for Mokihana Aquatics. “It was a really good race and both Anya and Keisha got consideration times.”
Littlefield stopped the clock at 57.37 with Anaya at 57.81, bettering the consideration standard of 59.09, but both swimmers falling short of the auto qualifying standard of 56.69.
Littlefield was involved in the other two consideration swims this time, the Girls 400 Yard Freestyle Relay event where Kapa‘a, finishing first, earned a consideration spot on a 4:13.15 swim.
Kaua‘i’s team finished just two seconds behind with a 4:15.68 for the final consideration spot of the day.
Littlefield was joing by Erin Cottingham, Kara Dastrup and Sara Faraola on the Kapa‘a long distance relay team.
Kaitlin Santos, Lauren Wheatly, Sophie Britzman and Tori Kobayashi made up the Kaua‘i team.
Kaitlyn Jarry, a Kapa‘a sophomore, finished 14th in the Women 100 Yard Freestyle event. That swim took place at the Kalani Invitational where Kapa‘a had part of its swim team participating.
“Kapa‘a had a ‘split squad’ at Saturday’s KIF meet with the other half at the well-attended Kalani Invitational on O‘ahu,” Brown said. “From what I heard, it sounds like they swam very well, especially against a lot of the big O‘ahu teams.”

This Saturday’s meet moves back to the Kapa‘a pool with the first event at 10 a.m.
